4 Tips for A Clean and Efficient Shower

Nov 29, 2019

You use your shower all the time. But do you think about cleaning and maintaining it often? If your answer to that question is “No” that’s okay—because the pros at Manzo Plumbing are here to give you some tips on how you can keep a clean and efficient shower. The last thing you want this holiday season is your shower causing problems!

While unclogging your shower is a nasty business, it is a necessary task. By unclogging your drain, you can guarantee the efficiency of your shower and prevent worse clogs from forming in your shower drain. To unclog your shower, simply use a gloved hand to remove the stopper and reach into the drain opening. Pull out any material such as soap scum and hair. If you don’t want to use your hand, you can fashion a plumbing snake of sorts using a wire from a hanger. Simply turn the end of the wire into a hook, push it into the drain and use it to pull out the clog. Don’t wait to the point where the water in your tub takes a while to drain—clean your shower drain often.

This tip is especially effective in preventing mold in or around the tiles of your shower. Your bathroom is already a humid area as it is, making it a perfect place for mold growth. To prevent excess moisture, turn on your exhaust fan often and wipe away any water that has accumulated around your tub. Take a minute to wipe down your bathroom walls by using a towel or a squeegee, to ensure less moisture accumulation.

Sometimes your shower might be the source of some frustrating leaks. This could be caused by a loose showerhead. To fix or prevent this issue, tighten the showerhead to the pipe stem and use Teflon to secure it. If you notice showerhead leaks, it is best to tackle this issue as soon as possible. According to the Environmental Protection Agency , a showerhead leaking at 10 drips per minute can waste up to 600 gallons per year. That is not only bad for the environment but for your wallet as well!

There is no point in trying to keep your shower clean and well-functioning if everyone does not pitch in. It’s important to teach your family the value of keeping your shower clean and well-maintained. By wiping down the walls after a shower or checking the drain for clogs, you and your loved ones can play an active role in keeping your shower efficient!
